Ahoy Matey!

Afternoon everyone hope you guys enjoyed your weekend, my weekend was pretty bland but I did finish yet another dress. I'm so excited also because I got my business cards today and it just feels so official, I'm just terribly excited.

Alright so this weekend I created another vintage recreation with the last bit of fabric I had and this is the pattern I used.

I got this lovely pattern off of etsy and was super excited to bring it to life. Now I love vintage dresses but sometimes they can get a bit long for me especially since I'm only 5"4 and a college student who travels a lot so I don't wear heels. So when I got the pattern the skirt was down to my ankles so I shortened it a bit and I also shortened the sleeves just a tad since its starting to warm up.

And now I am proud to introduce my latest creation Lucy. I used a light fabric I got from Joanns because when I saw this fabric I just had to have it because I love anything nautical. When I created Lucy the girl/woman I had in mind was the girl who is a beach going girl enjoying a sunny day, going shopping on the boardwalk and just being flirty and fun. Lucy is more of a outing dress nothing for work or anything too serious but she still has a sophisticated look to her.

The buttons were a but of a challenge because I wasnt sure if I wanted white or red but in the end red just gave it a certain spark.

This is me modeling Lucy and the pictures were taken by my good friend Anissa. So I paired Lucy with a simple black belt, navy blue stockings and red pumps and it turned out very nice. I just love how great Lucy turned out I'm just so proud I'm beaming especially now that I have my business cards as well. Hopefully by the end of this week I'll have more fabric and will be ordering more patterns to share with you guys and I might even share some of my old work.

Ja ne everyone :]

Green With Envy

Evening every one hope you guys had a wonderful weekend. My weekend was filled with lots of tea and cold medicine but I did go out for a short time and spent time with my wonderful mother.

Saturday I went with my mom to the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles to volunteer and check it out. It was a gorgeous theater and my first time in a dressing room I wish I could share pictures but I don't think they were allowed during the tour but it was nice and I got to show off the dress I made, I named her Juniper. After we toured the theater my mother and I dropped by Road Runner to pick up her bib for the Allstate half marathon she was going to run Sunday.

She's really been enjoying her runs and I'm just so proud of her and what she's accomplished. After we picked up her bib we had a late lunch at Cafe Mimi's. It was our first time dining there the atmosphere was great and the food was delicious. I had Sweet and Sour chicken and for dessert I had an Apple crumble toped with vanilla ice cream.

This week has been ultra cold, I am just not used to this cold but that didn't stop me from dressing nice and the theme of the past couple of days has been green and blue but mostly green hence the post name. :]

This was my outfit for today.
Cardigan: Christmas Present
Top: Forever 21
Skirt: Thrifted
Bag: H&M
Shoes: H&M
Bracelet: H&M

And now I would like to present one of the dresses I created named Juniper.

Juniper was made with a soft flannel I purchased at Joanns, I at first was apprehensive because I imagine flannel not something you want to make a dress with but it was actually lovely to work with. It has a nice flow to it and is very soft and warm when worn.

This is me modeling Juniper and the crinoline underneath gave it that nice fullness and bounce I wanted. I'm very proud of Juniper and hope you guys like her as much as I do. :] Have a great rest of the week everyone.

New Year

Good afternoon everyone, hope the new year is treating you well. :] Right now I'm fighting a cold but that hasn't stopped me from creating dresses.

Now lets start with a short introduction since this shall be my first post. My name is Zena and I'm a 20 year-old college student who lives in socal. I'm a fashion and psych major at Santa Monica college hoping to transfer to Berkeley. I create vintage recreations and put them on display, right now I'm not selling any of them but I am trying to get a business up and running. I've made nine recreations so far and though I won't be able to post all nine at once I would like to share with you my recent creation and a note I do name the dresses I create.

So let me introduce you to...Winifred

She took two days to complete due to school and my cold but she came out flawless. I used a Butterick pattern to create her. It is a full skirt pattern from the 60's I believe. I used a cotton fabric blend I purchased from Joanns. I really loved pattern of this fabric and it came out real well.

When I created Winifred I imagined a care free woman whos out and about shopping and enjoying the day or even a casual day at work.
I created Winifred for my mother who's given me inspiration, advice and support.

This is my beautiful mother in the dress I made for her.

I really enjoyed creating Winifred and I just want to create more beautiful dresses and I think this year is the year of the Seamstress.
